I got the 2007 Office suite just for the sake of Outlook 2007. It got good reviews and featured a new look, plus I wanted a switch back to Outlook after using Mozilla’s Thunderbird. I like to do my homework before I go out to buy stuff, especially with computer related stuff. It’s OCD. The program lived up to its reviews and was definitely worth the buy. It has way fewer ‘cannot start Outlook’ problems than its predecessor, Outlook 2003. Outlook 2010’s out now, but I’m still holding on to Outlook 2007, till I’m sure it’s fully rolled out – hotfixes, et al. If you’re with me and still planning to stick with Outlook 2007, here are a few good tips to keep ‘cannot start Outlook’ problems at bay and your email client working like a breeze.
Cannot start Outlook? Something’s making it crawl
Outlook needs to refresh its memory and load up all your emails and folders when it launches. Having too many items in your inbox or low system memory results in ‘cannot start Outlook’ problems and makes the application crawl. Microsoft has addressed these issues; especially some of the more common Outlook issues.
Connectors to your mailbox and Outlook add-ins may also cause ‘cannot start Outlook; problems if they aren’t installed properly or your network connection is faulty. Troubleshooting is really easy. Simply junk all your unwanted mails to free up enough space for Outlook folders. Transfer and back up important messages so that you can clear out your inbox when you cannot start Outlook. Also, remember to check if you’re connected to the net while sending/receiving mails. Ensure that your network configurations, outlook settings and add-ins are intact. That should take care of it.
Cannnot start Outlook? Stubborn emails
Do you have messages in your outbox that absolutely refuse to budge? Do what you might, but they’ll still be there, causing Outlook to error out often. Before it escalates to a stage where you cannot start Outlook, use the Microsoft hotfix update or the Office Diagnostics tool to detect and repair the problematic email message.
Still cannot start Outlook? Must be your pst then
Most cannot start Outlook problems are .pst related. General troubleshooting tips for common .pst errors include running the scanpst tool, taking a backup of your personal folder and restarting Outlook. Hopefully, these simple troubleshooting tips should make Outlooking a lot easier and keep the ‘cannot start Outlook’ issues in check.
